Pilot Suspended from Flying after receiving a DUI while Driving

Pilot Suspended from Flying after receiving a DUI while Driving

Jimmy Carrillo may be freaking out right about now due to his recent DUI arrest possibly destroying his career as a pilot.  Carrillo, has been removed from duty as a pilot with PSA Airlines, a subsidiary of American Airlines, while his DUI is under investigation, which could mean no flying and possibly no paycheck for Carrillo for many months.  It is not unusual for a DUI investigation and case to take months to resolve and some DUI cases can take a year or more to come to an end.

Carrillo, a North Carolina resident was in Naples, Florida when he was arrested for drunk driving.  According to police reports, on Monday morning around 2:11 am, Carrillo failed to stop his 2014 grey Buick rental car at a flashing red light.  He ran the light and cut in front of a deputy and another driver.  Police pulled the 35-year old over and questioned him on his whereabouts. Carrillo admitted he had just come from a local bar, Blue Martini, and while holding up four fingers he told the officers he had only consumed two drinks.  The pilot knew he was in the hot seat and tried talking his way out of the DUI by saying, “I have too much to lose,” and that he could call someone to pick him up immediately or take a cab.  He also reassured the local deputies that he, “wouldn’t fly an airplane for the next 12 hours.”  Carrillo’s BAC revealed a result was 0.095, he was arrested and charged with DUI.  Florida’s legal drinking limit is 0.08, the same as Washington State’s legal limit.

According to the Federal Aviation Regulation the use of alcohol and drugs by pilots is regulated by FAR 917.  Among other provisions, this regulation states that no person may operate or attempt to operate an aircraft: within 8 hours of having consumed alcohol, or while under the influence of alcohol, with a blood alcohol content of 0.04% or greater, or while using any drug that adversely affects safety.

Carrillo needs to hire a strong DUI defense lawyer, his career is depending on it.  Since Carrillo doesn’t live in Florida, he most likely doesn’t have a personal referral for a good DUI attorney and will have to find one on his own.  He would greatly benefit from reading our web page, “How to Pick a DUI or Criminal Defense Attorney – Know What Questions to Ask,” which provides information on to select the best DUI attorney for case representation.

Svetlana Dreyfuss Fails to Escape – Cops and DUI / Hit-And-Run Charge

Svetlana Dreyfuss Fails to Escape – Cops and DUI / Hit-And-Run Charge

Svetlana Dreyfuss, wife of famous actor Richard Dreyfuss, tried to escape DUI trouble by fleeing the scene of her crime only to get caught 2 miles later.

Allegedly Svetlana was driving under the influence of alcohol on June 2nd in Encinitas, CA when she drove her car through a wooden fence and broke a high pressure water line.  Svetelana then tried to escape the damaged she caused and drove away from the scene.  San Diego Sheriff deputies caught up with her two miles down the road.

The deputies questioned Svetlana about her evening activities and she admitted to drinking one glass of wine before getting behind the wheel.  She took the field sobriety tests, which she told TMZ that she believes she passed, and obviously failed because she was arrested and charged with DUI and hit-and-run.  Here is a news flash to anyone who opts to take the field sobriety tests… YOU WILL ALWAYS FAIL, the tests are difficult and confusing to sober individuals and even more so for someone who is under the influence of drugs and or alcohol.  Additionally, law enforcement officers usually embellish and exaggerate field test results so the alleged individual under DUI investigation appears even more intoxicated.

It is in Svetlana’s best interest to hire a reputable DUI criminal defense lawyer, she is facing two serious charges.  Hopefully she will do her due diligence and do some online research and visit multiple defense attorneys in person to find the best fit, a lawyer she will feel comfortable with.  Prior to online research, Mrs. Dreyfuss should take a look at our post “Looking For A DUI or Criminal Defense Attorney?  Don’t Be Fooled By Fake Reviews!” to give herself a heads up on DUI attorneys possibly posting false client reviews on their website, she doesn’t want to be scammed.  Also, Svetlana should read “Choosing A DUI or Criminal Defense Attorney – Checklist” to be prepared to ask the right questions and look for certain legal attributes before she goes to any DUI defense attorney consultations.

Judge Wants Justin Bieber to Star in a PSA as part of DUI Plea

Judge Wants Justin Bieber to Star in a PSA as part of DUI Plea

Some sources say it’s true, the Judge assigned to Justin Bieber’s Miami DUI case was wanting the Biebs to star in an anti-drug PSA (public service announcement) as part of his DUI plea deal.  The Judge also wanted Bieber to pay and produce the PSA.  However, Justin Bieber’s DUI defense attorney wasn’t having it, saying it was an inappropriate sentence and the prosecution seemed to agree.  Eventually the Judge retracted his idea of Beibs giving back to the community through a PSA.

Remember this DUI case… Justin was busted in Miami for drag racing down the streets outside a club while under the influence of alcohol.  Later it was discovered Justin wasn’t drag racing or under the influence of alcohol but did test positive for marijuana.  Thus still DUI of marijuana.

It sounds like Justin will be getting a pretty sweet DUI plea deal in a few weeks.  JB’s DUI defense attorney and the prosecutors have negotiated for Justin to plead guilty to a reckless driving and the three original charges of DUI, resisting arrest, and driving without a valid license will all be dropped!    Beibs isn’t getting off completely scott free, he will have to pay fines and attend an anger management class.

Originally, the prosecutors wanted Justin Bieber to attend a DUI drug/alcohol program, however, Justin’s defense lawyer again came to the rescue and argued Justin doesn’t suffer from alcoholism or drug abuse.  In the end, the prosecution settled on anger management classes.

Way to go criminal defense team Bieber!  3 major charges including a DUI all reduced down to reckless driving.  No production and appearance in a anti-drug PSA.  And finally, no DUI drug/alcohol program showing admission of guilt, instead only an anger management class and some court fines.  Great DUI plea deal, major win for JB!
