Austin Seferian-Jenkins Talked Too Much and Scored a DUI

Austin Seferian-Jenkins Talked Too Much and Scored a DUI

It just never pays to talk too much to the police, especially when they suspect you’ve been DUI, Driving Under the Influence of alcohol.  Nobody knows this better than pro NFL player, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who could have slipped away from police with just a written warning for speeding.  Instead of using the right to remain silent, ASJ chose to chit-chat with officers which lead to a DUI charge.

It was about a month ago when former University of Washington Husky and now New York Jets tight end, Austin Seferian-Jenkins was pulled over by Florida Highway Patrol.  According to police reports, ASJ was allegedly speeding 75-80 mph in a 55 mph zone.  During the questioning, officers discovered that they had pulled over a pro athlete and this may be the reason they were going to let him go with just a written warning, even though they could smell alcohol on this breath.  However, Seferian-Jenkins couldn’t keep quiet.

ASJ continued to make small talk with the officers.  He talked about passing the DUI field sobriety tests, he apologized to the officers  for wasting their time, he spoke about his catches on the football field and recent touchdowns, he continued telling the officers how he wanted to go to his quarterback’s house for a meeting and how he wanted to go home after and watch American Horror Story.

The officers could hear Seferian-Jenkins slurring his words and observed odd behavior. All the babble gave the Highway Patrol time to check his driver’s license which revealed ASJ was required to have an ignition interlock device in his car from a previous DUI charge back in Washington State.  This was enough for officers to arrest and charge ASJ for drunk driving.

Quiet Please Pop Art Woman, Austin Seferian-Jenkins DUI blogWhile on his way to the station, the 6’6″, 262 pound NFL player kept saying he needed to take a, “huge sh*t,” right away.   The officer quickly replied not in his new patrol car.  ASJ laughed and said he wouldn’t but the officer better hurry and get to the station.

Here at David O Defense, our DUI defense attorneys always recommend very minimal talking with police officers.  Talking does not improve a person’s situation, it only makes it worse.  A person will not talk their way out of a DUI charge, they will only talk their way into a DUI charge, just as ASJ did!

SHHHH!  Don’t talk to cops!

Seferian-Jenkins Charged With Misdemeanor DUI

Seferian-Jenkins Charged With Misdemeanor DUI

An update on UW’s football phenom Austin Seferian-Jenkins’ drunk driving accident that occurred on March 6; the Seattle City of Attorney’s Office has formally charged Seferian-Jenkins with a misdemeanor DUI after receiving his blood alcohol test results of .18, over twice the legal DUI limit of .08.

Immediately after the DUI accident, coach Steve Sarkisian placed the husky tight end on “indefinite” suspension, not allowing Seferian-Jenkins to participate in football practices or have contact with teammates.  In accordance with the University of Washington’s official student-athelete code of conduct,

When a student-athlete has been arrested or charged with a violation of criminal law, the student-athlete will be placed on administrative suspension from all team activities pending further investigation. If the alleged criminal activity would constitute a misdemeanor offense, the head coach may lift the administrative suspension after obtaining the approval of the sport administrator. If the alleged criminal activity would constitute a felony, the administrative suspension may be lifted only upon authorization of the Director of Athletics.’’

coach Sarkisian will be able to lift the suspension when he deems appropriate since Seferian-Jenkins has been charged with a misdemeanor DUI and not any felony charges.  Sarkisian stated in a recent interview, “He has already begun to take the necessary steps to return at the appropriate time.”

Seferian-Jenkins, possibly the nations best college tight end, will likely be back on the football field sooner rather than later.

Seattle Football Phenom Seferian-Jenkins Charged with DUI

Seattle Football Phenom Seferian-Jenkins Charged with DUI

Upsetting news for University of Washington football fans as they learn star player Austin Seferian-Jenkins has been suspended due to a DUI investigation over the weekend.  As of now the suspension restricts the Husky tight end from practices, games, and any contact with teammates until the DUI investigation is complete.  Once charges have been filed against Seferian-Jenkins the suspension will be re-evaluated.

UW football coach Steve Sarkisian released statements concerning the DUI arrest, “He will be disciplined internally in accordance with team and departmental policies.  We will continue to support Austin throughout this process, while holding  him accountable and responsible for his actions.”

Saturday night around 11:30 PM, Seattle police found Seferian-Jenkins’ car crashed in a ditch along Ravenna Boulevard, not far from UW’s sororities and fraternities, popular party location for college students.   Austin smelled of alcohol and suffered bloody injuries to his face (consistent with injuries acquired when hitting your head into a car windshield) giving Seattle police reason to arrest him with DUI and take him to the hospital for a blood test.  It is common practice for police in Washington State to take a person involved in a car accident that is under suspicion for DUI to the hospital for blood analysis to get an accurate BAC (blood alcohol content) reading.

Fellow Dawg football fans and all others, continue to follow my blog for updates on charges filed against Seferian-Jenkins.
