Illinois Man Injured in a DUI Accident is Shot by Police while at the Hospital

A few days ago a tragic turn of events happened in Highland Park, Illinois when a passenger involved in a DUI car accident was taken to a local hospital where he was fatally shot by police.

Around 11:30 Sunday evening, Illinois state police responded to a DUI car crash on Illinois Route 94.  The uninjured driver allegedly showed signs of driving under the influence and was arrested then taken to the station for possible DUI charges.  The two passengers in the car were Christopher Anderson and his 9-year-old daughter.  Both passengers suffered injuries from the car accident and were transported to Highland Park Hospital.

While at the hospital, Anderson allegedly became hostile and drew a handgun on hospital staff while they were trying to subdue him. Police were called.  At approximately 1:30am on Monday morning, police repeatedly asked Anderson to drop his gun, but police say he refused.  Anderson was shot dead by the officers.

Fortunately the daughter did not witness the shooting and was released from the hospital into her mother’s care.

Stricken with grief and anger, Anderson’s family has reached out to police for answers, of which they have had none.  “They steady shooting people and getting away with it,” says Shanta Davis, Anderson’s ex-girlfriend and mother to the 9-year-old daughter, “and they know they messed up so they trying to plan as if he did all of this and that, my daughter said he had no gun on him and I’m going to believe my daughter.”

Chicago community activist, Ralph Peterson questions the actions of the police, “How can a 27-year-old whose daughter is seeking medical attention end up dead?”

Currently the Lake County Major Crime Task Force is investigating whether the shooting was justified or not.

Prescription Drug DUI for Actor Chris Kattan

Prescription Drug DUI for Actor Chris Kattan

Monday mornings can be lame, knowing the entire work week lies ahead.  This past monday morning was especially bad for actor Chris Kattan…15 hour red-eye flight home, crashing his car into a DOT vehicle on the freeway, failing DUI field tests, and then being arrested for DUI.  Bad monday!

California highway patrol officers reported they received a call from a source that saw Kattan’s Mercedes swerving across lanes on highway 101.  Moments later, Kattan crashed into a Department of Transportation vehicle that was coned in on the side of the freeway.  Luckily Kattan didn’t hit any of the DOT crewmen working on the freeway and nobody was inside the parked vehicle.

Chris Kattan, well-known for his skits on Saturday Night Live, admitted to law enforcement that he had taken prescription drugs and it had affected his driving, alcohol was not involved!  The Highway Patrol still required Kattan to perform the DUI (driving under the influence) field sobriety tests, of which he failed.  Kattan was quite surprised saying I thought I “passed all the tests.”   Kattan was arrested and charged with DUI of drugs.  Washington State and the State California have the same outlook on DUIs; a charge of DUI of drugs is considered the same offense as DUI of alcohol, penalties remain the same.

Being arrested and charged with a crime can cause a whirl wind of emotions; fear, frustration, humiliation, anger, etc.  Kattan was obviously wrapped up in emotion when he recently tweeted to media, “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say it at all.”

Bad monday… good luck with the rest of your week, Chris Kattan, be sure to contact a knowledgeable, experienced DUI attorney, it will take a lot of weight off your shoulders.  Here in Washington State, contact Senior Criminal Defense Attorney, David O, if you have received a drug or alcohol related DUI charge or have been in a DUI related accident, 206-459-6392.

Seferian-Jenkins Charged With Misdemeanor DUI

Seferian-Jenkins Charged With Misdemeanor DUI

An update on UW’s football phenom Austin Seferian-Jenkins’ drunk driving accident that occurred on March 6; the Seattle City of Attorney’s Office has formally charged Seferian-Jenkins with a misdemeanor DUI after receiving his blood alcohol test results of .18, over twice the legal DUI limit of .08.

Immediately after the DUI accident, coach Steve Sarkisian placed the husky tight end on “indefinite” suspension, not allowing Seferian-Jenkins to participate in football practices or have contact with teammates.  In accordance with the University of Washington’s official student-athelete code of conduct,

When a student-athlete has been arrested or charged with a violation of criminal law, the student-athlete will be placed on administrative suspension from all team activities pending further investigation. If the alleged criminal activity would constitute a misdemeanor offense, the head coach may lift the administrative suspension after obtaining the approval of the sport administrator. If the alleged criminal activity would constitute a felony, the administrative suspension may be lifted only upon authorization of the Director of Athletics.’’

coach Sarkisian will be able to lift the suspension when he deems appropriate since Seferian-Jenkins has been charged with a misdemeanor DUI and not any felony charges.  Sarkisian stated in a recent interview, “He has already begun to take the necessary steps to return at the appropriate time.”

Seferian-Jenkins, possibly the nations best college tight end, will likely be back on the football field sooner rather than later.
