DUI Penalties: First Time Offenders

DUI Penalties: First Time Offenders

Washington State is known for having some of the toughest DUI penalties in the nation.  These DUI penalties are harsh to prevent repeat drunk driving.  Penalties for a first time DUI offender are dictated by the BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) reading taken at the police station, consequences are worse for a BAC result more than .15 or a refusal to blow, than compared to consequences for a BAC result less than .15.

If the BAC result is less than .15; than an individual found guilty of DUI would be facing 1-364 days in jail or 15 days of EHM (Electric Home Monitoring).  Fines range from $941.00 to $5,000.00.  Their Washington State driver’s license would  be suspended for 90 days, and an ignition interlock device would be required in any car they drive.

If the BAC result is more than .15 or refused; than an individual found guilty of DUI would be facing 2-364 days in jail or 30 days of EHM.  Fines range from $1,196.00 to $5,000.00.  Their Washington State driver’s license would be revoked for 1 year if their BAC result was more than .15 or if the individual refused the BAC reading than their driver’s license would be revoked for 2 years.

In addition to jail time, fines, and license suspensions, any first time DUI offender would have to get an alcohol evaluaion and complete the recommended DUI treatment programs.  The judge may also order community service hours or work crew.

Bobby Brown is Sentenced to 55 Days in Jail for DUI #2.

Bobby Brown is Sentenced to 55 Days in Jail for DUI #2.

Follow up report.  Bobby Brown is going to spend some time in the slammer for his latest charge of DUI that occurred in October 2012 (check out my blog “Snaps!  Bobby Brown’s 2nd DUI This Year” for the DUI arrest details).

Earlier today, retired singing sensation Bobby Brown, pled no contest to the DUI and driving on a license suspended charges.  The judge sentenced him to 55 days in jail, 4 years of probation, and completion of an 18 month DUI and alcohol treatment program.   Brown was also ordered to attend 3 Alcoholics Anonymous meeting per week until he starts his jail time, which must begin by March 20th.

This is Bobby Brown’s third DUI in his lifetime.  The first DUI occurred in 1996, followed by his second and third DUI in 2012.

Here in Washington State, if a person is guilty of a second DUI within seven years, they would be facing a jail sentence ranging from a minimum of 30 days to a maximum of 364 days behind bars.   They would also need to invest in a good pair of sneakers or a bus pass because they would lose their driver’s license for a minimum of 2 years and up to a max of 2 1/2 years.  Lets not forget fines ranging from $1196.00 to $5000.00 and electric home monitoring post jail time for at least 60 days.

Not a Crime Victim – Justin Beiber’s PR Stunt

Not a Crime Victim – Justin Beiber’s PR Stunt

Earlier this week, Justin Beiber sent tweets to his almost 29 million twitter followers that he was a victim of theft at his concert held in Tacoma, Washington.  A laptop computer and a camera were listed as stolen by Justin.  A police report was never filed and therefore no police investigation ever occured.  Fans and social media became suspicious of Justin and his actions concerning this criminal act.  Was this a PR stunt by Justin?  Yes!  As it turns out an unknown source under the twitter account @gexwy, tweeted on Thursday they had possession of J.B.’s items and released a personal home video, according to IBTimes.  Amongst many tweets that occurred between Justin and @gexwy, was the tweet by @gexwy that they would show more personal Beiber footage on Friday at noon.  Justin’s millions of followers flocked in anticipation, what could it be?  Not too suprisingly it was J.B.’s new music video “Beauty and the Beat.”

Along with the music video Justin provided a string of tweets giving motive for the childish hoax “since i was 14 i have had a lot of things said about me, from dying, to taking hormones, to dying again, to stuff about my family… to saying i had a baby with a woman i never even met. nude pics, drugs, my family, my character…but today…today i get to be in on it…”

No harm, no foul, no crime committed, just a few lies.
