Rapper 50 Cent Strikes A Deal And Gets Domestic Violence Charges Dismissed!

Rapper 50 Cent Strikes A Deal And Gets Domestic Violence Charges Dismissed!

Today was a good day for celebrity rapper 50 Cent, real name Curtis James Jackson III.  Today in court, 50 Cent took a deal offered by the Los Angeles Prosecutors Office to plead guilty to only one of the five criminal charges that were filed against him for a domestic dispute back in June 2013.  By doing so, 50 Cent avoided time in the slammer and the other four criminal charges were dismissed which included the misdemeanor domestic violence charge.

So what happened back in June?  Allegedly, the 38 year-old rapper, actor, and entrepeneur, lost control of his emotions while at his baby’s mama’s LA condo.  Daphie Joy, mother to 50 Cent’s second son, called LA police claiming 50 Cent kicked down a door, physically kick her, and caused damage by smashing and throwing items all over her house including chandeliers, a TV, a lamp, personal belongings, and then went crazy in her closet throwing things around.  His temper tantrum that day caused an estimated amount of $7100.00 worth of damage.

Fifty Cent was arrested and charged with four counts of misdemeanor vandalism and one count of misdemeanor domestic violence.  He plead not guilt to all charges during his first court appearance but the judge still imposed a no contact order against 50 Cent stating he must stay at least 100 yards away from Daphie Joy at all times.  The judge also ordered Fifty to turn in all of his guns to authorities.

As of today, the “Get Rich or Die Tryin” rapper plead guilty to only one misdemeanor vandalism charge and was sentenced to three years of probation, 30 hours of community service, required counseling sessions, and repayment of $7100.00 to his baby’s mama Daphie Joy.

Criminal Defense Attorney Gets Rapper Too Short A Good Package Deal

Criminal Defense Attorney Gets Rapper Too Short A Good Package Deal

Last week, rapper Too Short was probably feeling pretty good after he and his criminal defense lawyer wrapped up his case by pleading guilty to a DUI charge and in return Short’s other six criminal charges were dropped.

Back in March, Too Short was pulled over by police for suspicion of DUI, during the DUI field tests Too Short tried to run from officers.  Short was caught within seconds, cuffed, and placed into the squad car.  While in route to the LA police station, officers allegedly discovered Ecstasy in the back of their car, claiming it fell out of Short’s pockets.  Too Short denied it was ever in his possession.

Short was charged with seven different charges including; DUI with DUI breath test over .08, resisting arrest, and possession of MDMA (Ecstasy).

Short’s criminal defense attorney negotiated a good package deal for the rapper; Short plead no contest to the DUI charge and all of his other charges were dismissed.  He was sentenced to 3 years of probation, fines, and attendance of DUI alcohol education classes.  Short’s deal was even sweeter considering he avoided jail time all together even with prior DUI’s on his criminal record.

Here in Washington State, if an individual has a prior DUI on their criminal record and pleads guilty to a second DUI they would at least spend 1 day in jail.  See the prior blog What are the penalties for a 2nd DUI Conviction? – Criminal Defense Attorney, David O to see Washington State consequences for a 2nd DUI.

Erin Brockovich Charged with Drunk Driving While Boating

Erin Brockovich Charged with Drunk Driving While Boating

Calling all boaters, it is illegal to drive a boat while under the influence of alcohol with a BAC level above .08.  Instead of receiving a DUI (driving under the influence) charge, an individual suspected of drunk driving a boat would be charged with a BUI (boating under the influence).

Just last week, Erin Brockovich, who’s dramatic life story was portrayed by actress Julia Roberts, was booked with BUI when a Lake Mead game warden approached her boat to investigate a yelling match occurring between herself and her husband.  Not only did the Nevada game warden hear yelling and screaming, but he watched Erin throw her cell phone into the water and then slap her husband across the face.

The warden suspected possible BUI, noting Erin’s slurred speech and odor of alcohol.  When asked to dock her boat, Erin replied to the warden, “not very good at driving,”  The warden himself assisted Erin and her husband with docking the boat safely.

Erin’s breathalyzer test reveled BAC levels of .186 and .190, twice the legal limit!  Brockovich was arrested and charged with BUI.

In remorse of her drunk driving decisions, Erin released the following statement.  “I apologize for my actions Friday evening. After a day in the sun and with nothing to eat it appears that a couple of drinks had a greater impact than I had realized. It is very important to note that I was not operating the boat in open waters, I was moving it within its own slip. At no time was the boat away from the dock and there was no public safety risk. That being said, I take drunk driving very seriously, this was clearly a big mistake, I know better and I am very sorry.”

In Washington State a BUI charge is a misdemeanor charge.  BUI maximum penalties include 90 days in jail and/or a $1000.00 fine.
